Which Social Media Platforms Should Your Business Focus On? Take Our Quiz!

Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. LinkedIn. More than 65 million businesses have a Facebook business page. 88% of businesses with more than 100 employees use Twitter for marketing purposes. There are 8 million registered businesses using Instagram business profiles. Approximately 500 million businesses use LinkedIn to recruit and promote their companies. With all the social media platforms out there, it can be hard to decide which one works for your brand and is worth the investment of your money and time.

Take this quiz to help you determine which platforms are best for your business!

1 | What age range are you trying to target as your brand audience?

If you said 18-29 year olds, then you’re in luck. Millennials use all four platforms on a very regular basis, but especially Instagram (59%) and Facebook (88%). Many young professionals also use LinkedIn regularly to scope out the job market but not necessarily to take in brand content.

The percentage of 30-49 year olds using social media is also very high. Facebook comes in at a high 79%, while LinkedIn and Instagram are close behind.

If you’re aiming to reach 50-64 year olds or 65+ year olds, then Facebook (55-61%) or LinkedIn (20-25%) are your best bet. Only 18% use Twitter and 13% use Instagram.

2 | Is your product or service aimed at a specific gender?

Most platforms show pretty equal statistics when it comes to gender, however, female internet users are more likely to use Instagram than men, at 38% vs. 26%. So if you’re planning to market to females, consider using Instagram as a major platform.

3 | Are you looking to create and share video content?

If yes, Facebook is a great platform for you. You know we’re all guilty of scrolling through the feed and stumbling upon cute puppy videos or delicious recipe videos. Users watch 100 million hours of video content on Facebook daily. Connect with your audience by posting engaging (and short!) video content that is quickly consumable. Instagram is also a great video hosting platform. Another feature on both platforms you may want to utilize is Facebook and Instagram live so you can connect with your audience in real time and drive people to your page for specific events or content.

4 | Do you want to engage your audience on a daily basis?

If you said yes, then Twitter and/or Facebook are probably your best options. Over 40% of Twitter users are on the site daily. You can post multiple times a day on Twitter; in fact, it’s encouraged. Make sure to engage with your consumers authentically with likes and retweets as well. Almost 1.5 billion people on average log onto Facebook daily and are considered daily active users. That’s a lot of potential! If you don’t feel the need to post every day, Instagram or even Linkedin are great places to post. But still, consistency is key!

5 | Are you a small business?

If you said yes, you should absolutely be posting on Twitter regularly. Almost 75% of Twitter users follow small businesses to get product updates and learn about discounts and sales.

6 | Do you want to run ads on social media that drive people to your website?

If so, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are all great options. More than 2 million advertisers regularly use Facebook to market their business. In March 2017, over 120 million Instagrammers visited a website, got directions, called, emailed, or direct messaged to learn about a business based on an Instagram ad.

7 | Do you want to engage millionaires?

Then you should probably use LinkedIn since 41% of millionaires use it…. Just kidding. But seriously, if you want to engage successful and ambitious business people, this is the platform for you.
